God does give himself a name ... but it is not a name that puts himself in a box. He is what he is. "I Am Who I Am." ... He is the eternal subject. He is not somebody else's object that can be categorized and defined. He is what HE says he is. He is what he discloses of himself. He is.

It is not so much the case that God has a mission for his church in the world, as that God has a church for his mission in the world. Mission was not made for the church; the church was made for mission – God’s mission.

If we are interested in Christianity in any sort of serious way, it is not because it's easy or trendy or popular. It's because Jesus himself is appealing, and what he says rings true. It's because the world we inhabit is utterly phony, ephemeral, narcissistic, image-obsessed and sex-drenched—and we want an alternative. It's not because we want more of the same.
